Chanvenskaya (Vokulskaya) Cave31.08.2010, 08:43 — administratorChanvenskaya (Vogulskaya, Vogulsky heathen temple) is located on the left ban of the river Chanva, not far from the mouth of the river Kopizhnaya. It is rather easy to find the cave: Its entrance has considerable sizes. The height of the entrance is 18 meters, the width – 34 meters. The cave is horizontal; its length is not large – only 70 meters. In the late 19th century scientist of local history S.I. Sergeev excavated in the cave. Multitude of religion articles, adornments, weaponry, household stuff and coins of the 10th - 11th centuries. In the 20th century archeologists established that the cave served as a holy heathen temple in upper paleolith. According to scientists of local history, the cave was a heathen temple (pagan sanctuary) of the Mansi where ritual rites connected with sacrifices to the spirits of ancestors were held. The articles of sacrifices were both animals and various things: sable fur, arrows, adornments, and clothes.
