The president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has arrived to Mary El's Republic where will hold a meeting with representatives of local governments. After that the lider of of Russia will visit one of villages, a call center of the Department of Internal Affairs and will familiarize with measures on preventive maintenance of forest fires. On it informs RIA Novosti news agency.

Mary El - one of seven regions in which the decree of the head of the state in connection with natural fires declares an emergency situation. There are 22 seats of fire in the republic, all in their Russia 442 now are fixed. Every day about 1300 persons and 130 units of technics are involved in their suppression.

The president right after arrivals in Mary El has gone to village Small Shaplak. This settlement, the first mention about which meets in 1795, now totals 72 home ownerships from which 35 belong to summer residents. In it settlement the head of the state will familiarize with measures under the prevention of forest fires.

Then Medvedev will visit a call center of the Department of Internal Affairs in Ioshkar Ola where will hand over the state awards to employees of law-enforcement bodies, the Ministry of Emergency Measures and the Minister of Defence, including taking part in suppression of fires.

In second half of day the head of the state will meet the president of republic Leonid Markelov and after that will hold a meeting with representatives of local governments.

Ioshkar Ola is in 860 kilometers from Moscow. In Mary El who is located in territory in 23,5 thousand square kilometers, lives about 700 thousand persons. The Mari edge has been attached to the Russian state in the middle of ХVI centuries. In November, 1920 the Mari autonomous region transformed in December, 1936 in Mari АССР has been formed. In December, 1990 the Supreme body Mari АССР has accepted the Declaration on the state sovereignty of republic. Since July, 1992 it began to be called officially Mary El's Republic.
