Seven Wonders of the Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples will be selected throughout the world. International action to determine the most unusual and popular attractions of the Uralic language family has started on the Internet.

According to the editor-in-chief of the Media Center Yuriy Popov, the main goals of the action is promoting interest of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples in maintaining their ethnic identity, as well as promoting interest of other peoples of the world to Finno-Ugric ethnos, their cultural heritage, and maintenance of their unique nature and cultural sites. “Everyone is welcome to propose for the action, but not Finno-Ugric peoples themselves, – he underlined. -  Everyone can propose a “miracle” on the website of the action. Involved experts from Russia, Hungary, Finland and Estonia shall evaluate the proposed sites if they suit the action”.

Public nomination objects claiming miracles, began on the site FINUGOR.RU on July 30.

Each proposal should be supported by a short description which can be complemented by photos, audio and video materials.

The international action “7 Wonders of Finno-Ugric World” shall be carried out in 3 stages. In August-September the collection of proposals in four nominations shall continue: nature sites connected with the history and culture of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples; material cultural monuments and handmade constructions; cultural, art and literary monuments (so-called monuments of non-material culture), and national holidays. At the second stage (from middle of September to early November), sights of greatest interest from every people in each nomination shall be determined by public voting. At the final stage which started in early November, winners shall be selected by public voting: 7 “wonders” presented in each nomination, which got the maximum number of votes. The official announcement of the action results shall be held in December, 2010. The project is being implemented by wide support of scientific institutions, public associations, mass media, and authorities of countries and regions.
