VOD’ (“vozhane”)- is the oldest population of Ingria (Ingermanlandia, Izhorskaya land), part of modern day northwestern Russia with is roughly southwest of Saint Petersburg,and east of the Estonian border-town of Narva.

Till the beginning of XIX c. woman’s dress remained of precise gradation in age groups: sleeveless clothes worn next to the skin on the shoulders, girls had linen white dress, married women had blue cloth dress, over it there was a short jacket, old women worn clothes like a shirt. Head dresses included tough forms from material that was like a towel.

The type of the vod’ clothes characterized by several types of pinafores, synchronous wear of several belts, nabedrenniks ( the kind of the clothes that women wore on their hips), bibs decorated with embroidery, with thread, glass heads and shell of kauri. Vod’ that lived along the river Luda, worn skirt over the shirt. This skirt was made from material without any needlework and adopted from western Izhora. In the second half of XIX c. Russian sarafan became a usual dress.

In October 2009, the fund Kingisepsky Historical Museum received pieces of the female costume of Vod’, dating back to XVII century. The exhibit was found near the village of Valla resident of the city Kingisepp.po According to experts, this is a unique ethnographic monument.
