Public proposal for the nomination “Wonder of Finno-Ugric World” is running on the Media Center website FINUGOR.RU. In the first part of August, Hungarians and Finns were the most active among Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples to propose sights.

The House of Terror in Budapest and Nuuksio nature reserve near Helsinki, the Finnish fortress Suomenlinna or the Hungarian abbey Pannonkhalma? The official announcement of the winners in the action “Wonders of Finno-Ugric World” will be held this December by open voting. However, the action organizers believe that the current activity of Hungarians and Finns isn’t indicative of the indifference of other Finno-Ugric peoples to their cultures. The problem is in availability of the Internet and numerical superiority of these two peoples in comparison with Estonian and Russian representatives of the Ural language family.

“The activity of foreign kinsmen cannot but make us glad. But let me remember that Russia is in the lead by the number of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples living in it, the Editor-in-Chief of the Media Center Yuriy Popov highlights. The Internet is becoming more available. Interesting places, original traditions, and rare sites are hard to count. That’s why the Media Center FINUGOR.RU appeals to more activity among Russian Internet users. Otherwise, the palm of victory will be shared by foreign Finno-Ugrians. According to him, everyone can propose a wonderful site pertaining to Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples on the website www.finugor.ru. This is what Russian Sami do now. In spite of their small numbers (about 2,000 people), they can easily compete with “major” Ural peoples (there are 15 mln Hungarians and 5 mln Finns).
