To this day the locals can point to two or three stones in every village which were considered seitas. Seitas occur in Karelia, on the Kola Peninsula, and in Scandinavia. Their main characteristic feature is instability. There seitas in the form of stone pyramidions standing separately or at the summits of the boulders; boulders on the support (more often in number of three items); boulders standing on the edge apex down or hanging over a precipice; in the form of a construction made from several stones standing on each other; boulders standing over the split in the rock; boulders standing on-the-mitre of 45 degrees on the rocks. Each stone has its own legend. Seita is usually a worshipped object of all the population and, evidently, was connected with the worship of ancestors. The word “seita” etymologically coordinate with the designation of the settlement, may be, a kin – “siit”. The foregoing seitas are located near Sami shooting and fishing preserves. Originally seitas were tribal fetishes than family ones. Seita is an object of worship and reverence. Seita not only stands on its dignity but also require observance of certain rule in the area of its influence, especially nearby and in the limelight. The observance of silence, absolute abstention from swearing ans even jokes are overall spreading rules. Besides, seita likes gifts and favorite Sami food. In return for rendering influence it bays fish to nets, helps in chase and deer pasture. Seita severely punishes for disregard, mockery and roughness.
