The head of the delegation highlighted that since the Peace the Treaty of Trianon, this group is the first forum which provides an opportunity for the representatives of Hungarian communities of the Carpathian Basin to work together.

Speaking at the session, the chairperson of the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute Ildikó Orosz expressed her gratitude to the Fidesz-KDNP alliance for ensuring an opportunity for Transcarpathia’s Hungarian community to be represented in the European Parliament in the person of MEP Andrea Bocskor. Ms. Orosz made three proposals for the delegation. Firstly, she proposed to make a film about the 20th century history of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia. Secondly, with regard to the fact that the Hungarian Government declared 2015 the memorial year of the victims of Soviet labor camps and political prisoners deported to the Soviet Union, she proposed to organize a conference in order to jointly commemorate the victims of communism. Ms. Orosz also said that it would be important if MEPs also took part in this year’s memorial march organized by the KMKSZ every 5 year to remember Transcarpathian men deported to Soviet labor camps. “This would make the commemoration more effective, enabling us to call the EU’s attention to the crimes committed by the Soviet Union against the Hungarians of Transcarpathia”.

In the evening, the guests and the MEPs of the Fidesz-KDNP alliance took part in the “Fidesz Polgári Szalon”, hosted by ldikó Gáll-Pelcz. The event gave an opportunity to meet the representatives of the “National List” launched by the Fidesz-KDNP alliance in the 2014 European Parliament elections.
