The present-day Luzhitsy is an informal capital of Votes (people inhabiting Votia, which is situated in Ingria, northwestern Russia). Nearby there is Kurgalsky wildlife sanctuary with healing wellsprings and the large village of Krakolye with a secondary school.
Marina Alexandrovna Petrova, the deputy director on the out-of-school activities, created children’s folk group of ‘Linnut’ which literally means ‘little birds’. The repertoire of the group includes the ancient runes as well as the modern songs in the Votic language. They stage the fairy-tails, traditional national rites and ceremonies. The group of ‘Linnut’ is not only a regular participant of the regional festivals, but it is also invited to the celebrations of some relative Finno-Ugric peoples.
