Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Area Igor Fedorov came out for the teaching the Nenets language in the national schools of this region. He announced it on the meeting of presidium the counsil of the Association of Finno-Ugric nations of Russia, which was taken place in April in Naryan-Mar.
Problems of mother tongue’s preservation, of smaller peoples’ culture and of the modern Russian education became the subject of the discussion. The Nenets language is studied in 13 national schools of the region beyond the Arctic Circle. According to Praskevi Vyucheyskaya – the teacher from the township Krasnoe – not all parents treat the studying Nenets in schools kindly and justify that it would be better to spend that classes for studying Russian.
Association leaders noted the interest of the head of Nenets Autonomous Area in the solution of native people’s problems. Igor Fedorov meets regularly with agricultural cooperatives and social movements, many decisions are made from collaboration between the Association of the Nenets nation “Yasavey” and the Counsil of Ancients. Two years ago on their’s recommendation was set up the organ of the executive branch that deals with support and development of the smaller native peoples. In 2011 A. Ardeeva held the post of councilor for the Indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North affairs.
The A. Ardeeva’s speech aroused the keen interest from meeting members. The speech was about information technologies to persevere traditional knowledge of the Indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North. After the example of Nenets community “Yamb to” she obvious showed how Nenets people pass on their experience of sewing overclothes from the deer leather, of making implements, how to graze deeps and bring up children. According to A. Ardeeva tundra’s environment favours the assimilation of traditional knowledge of native people.
The members of the Association and region leaders suggest that it is necessary to solve a problem of learning native language on the state level. That is why it was decided to send in an appeal to the Minister of Education and Science of the Andrey Fursenko. All the parties want peculiarities of learning national languages to be taken into account in the new federal law of education. The governor of the okrug intends to invite A. Fursenko to visit the region beyond the Arctic circle and Nenets schools.
