Valery Markov: Decision about the World Finno-Ugric Congress taking place in Hungary did not come easy to the Hungarians

It was not an easy decision to make whether the World Finno-Ugric Congress should take place in Hungary. This idea was formulated by the chairperson of the International Consultative Committee of the Finno-Ugric peoples Valery Markov in Syktyvkar on February, 4.

“This Congress matter appeared to be a real challenge. The Hungarians took the business of the Congress organization very seriously; they held long discussions whether they would be able to implement the task. What if the event will be announced, and they would not cope with it? The Parliament and government also held discussions on their way to the final decision. As a result, now I hold in my hand an act of Hungarian government, issued at the end of October, 2011. At present day, rather a modest sum of money was determined from the national budget. Now the Hungarians are going our way, like it was with organization of the first Congress in Syktyvkar in 1992. TheCongresswillbesupportedbyvolunteers. The situation is a tough one.”

V. Markov explained, that the members of the Hungarian national organizing committee, engaged in the organization of the Congress, had a meeting with the President of Hungary, in the course of which they discussed the preparations for the Finno-Ugric forum.

However, possible problems can be of another type. Thus, since February, 3 the Hungarian air company ‘Malev’ has stopped working.
