The termination of term of presidential power of Tarja Halonen does not mean the refusal of political and intellectual elite of Finland from active participation in the international Finno-Ugric movement. Such opinion was expressed to media centre FINUGOR by Alexey Konjuhov - the outstanding representative of Finno-Ugric movement, the ex-minister of the affairs of Komi nationalities, the candidate of sociological sciences, the deputy director on a science of republican centre "Heritage" of a name of Pitirim Sorokin - making comments on the results of elections of the head Suomi. We will remind, by results of voting in the second round a candidate from Coalition Party Sauli Niinistö became the president of Finland (T.Halonen represented the social democrats).
A.Konjuhov noted that T.Halonen, being on a post of president Suomi, had made a lot for Finno-Ugric movement and, in particular, supporting projects on preservation and development of language and culture of the Finno-Ugric people of the Russian Federation. «During the administration of Halonen Finns actively participated in different projects, offered their experience and methods of their realization. For example, the project on training of active workers of the Finno-Ugric non-governmental organizations successfully worked some years». One of the most appreciable initiatives of T.Halonen is the offering Russians to use the technique of "a language nest» for revival of Minorite languages which have appeared under the threat of disappearance. It was successfully used in Finland to rescue of Inari- Lappish language. T.Halonen kept a good-neighborhood of Finland and Russia. During her presidency the commodity circulation between two countries had been growing.
«Halonen is the good politician that thinks about destiny of the Finno-Ugric people of Russia. It is a pity, that she leaves, but I do not think, that the policy of Finland in the field of Finno-Ugric movement will change after the new president will start execution of powers. Suomi is not that country where all depends on the person on the higher post».
As the interlocutor explained the ruling elite of Suomi keeps to active participation in the international Finno-Ugric movement. «Yes, the ordinary Finns can know nothing about the related people living far in the east – say, Khanty and Mansi. But the elite knowsthat politicians and intellectuals of Finland are well informed in the situation. The elite are engaged in history, culture - and transmit these values to the following generations. Now in Finland are transmitted and will be remain further the moments connected with Finno-Ugric relationship», - declared A.Konjuhov.
