The Karelian delegation on the Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples included new figures and a Suomi Karelian

The delegation of Karelians for the VI World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples included a representative of the Karelians of Finnland, member of the Karelian language society, University professor of the city of Kuopio, Marti Pentonen. Media Center FINUGOR was informed about it by the chairperson of the Council of the authorized representatives of the Karelian Convention Olga Zharinova. It is worth reminding that, as reported earlier, Finnish Karelians applied to the Russian Karelians asking to grant them 5 places in delegation (quota for the Karelians from Karelia is 20 places). However, afterwards this question had not been risen.

The Tver Karelians formed their own delegation consisting of 10 people on the election conference of the regional national cultural autonomy of the Tver Karelians. The list of delegates was confirmed on the 27th of March on the session of the Council of the authorized representatives of the Karelian Convention. “The Council of the authorized representatives, as a functioning body of the Convention, coordinates the preparation of the delegation. It was a matter of high importance for us, that the list of delegates included Karelian representatives of 3 national municipal districts of the republic: Olonetsky, Pryazhinsky, and Kalevalsky. Among the delegates there are representatives of such organizations as “Karjalan rahvahan Liitto” (the union of Karelian people), “Nuori Karjala” (Young Karelia), “Karelian Congress”, “Olonetsky Karelians”. The most delegates take part in the work of Congress for the first time, - remarked O. Zharinova. Among our delegates there are Karelians, representing municipal, executive and legislative powers of the Republic of Karelia.
