János Pusztay: "To save the Hungarian language the concept of community is necessary"

It was stated by Professor, Head of the Department of the Uralic Languages of Western Hungarian Institute in Szombathely János Pusztay at the VI World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples in the Hungarian town of Siofok on September 7.

"I believe that the Hungarian language is needed a concept. First of all, it is necessary to introduce widespread use of the Hungarian language in science, not replace it in English. "
According to the scientist, in the XIX century the reform of the Hungarian language, that raised its status and updated the language itself, was held. Hungarian Academy of sciences was found there. New reforms are again carried out now, the new Constitution of Hungary is accepted, state transformation takes place and the process of forging a monolithic Hungarian nation happens. Hungary is a member of EU where at the high level it is spoken about protection of languages and cultures. But with all this situation Hungarians’ residence outside the country on the territory of the seven states is very difficult.

«The number of population in the country is decreased, outside of Hungary it is just assimilation. The impact of the majority language in these countries - Slovak, Romanian and other causes the Hungarian language dialects. Differences in lexicon become an example of such phenomenon, - J.Pusztay said. - Now the scientific theses are being examined at us in English, and in Hungarian - no.

It is a violation of language rights, because everyone has the right of access to the information on the native language».
The professor suggested the authorities of Hungary to pass the new law on the Hungarian language by an example of Estonia where the law on the Estonian language is passed and five years' program on development of this language is accepted.
