The program of Sami languages rebirth in Finland will be finished only in 2013. The president of the Sami parliament in Finland (SPF), Klemetti Nyakkyalyayarvi, stated his opinion to the Media Centre FINUGOR by commenting the situation concerning the delay of the problem in Suomi.
It will be recalled that the minister of Suomi justice Anna-Maja Henriksson in September 2011 stated that Sami languages in Finland were endangered despite law protection. The minister of education Y. Gustafsson agreed with work group’s conclusions and promised the state support.
Earlier in the ministry of education and culture Suomi one said the development of the Sami languages rebirth program should be finished till the end of 2011.
At the VI world congress of the Finno-Ugric peoples in Hungary the Finland president Sauli Niinistö stated that the government of the country supports Sami languages and culture.”The Finland constitution defines that as the native people Sami have a right to save and develop their mother language and culture, and also usage the Sami language in government bodies. Provided the Sami culture, we [Suomi government] crated for Sami people a special system of preschool and school education. In addition in Finland a special program concerning the Sami languages rebirth is nowadays developed. However the state measures are not enough. It is necessary to provide activist and public’s participation for realize all these programs in practice”, - noticed the head of the state.
K. Nyakkyalyayarvi specified that the program was really developed, but the end of that work was expected to be in 2013 despite the previous officials’ promices.
