In Karelia takes place amalgamation of the Petrozavodsk State university (PetrGU) and Karelian State Pedagogical academy (KGPA). For all that the future of the department of training for specialists in the Baltic-Finnish languages area becomes unclear. At this moment the department of the Baltic-Finnish philology an culture of PetrGU is closed by force of amalgamation with the philological department of the university.
Since the 1st of March at the department of philology two new sub departments have officially worked: the department of the Finnish language and literature and the department of the Karelian and Veps languages. It was reported to the Informational centre FINUGOR by the press service of the university. I was noted that the departments’ merger happened within the bounds of the amalgamation of PetrGU and KGPA. The KGPA and PetrGU merging order was signed on December, 11 by the minister of education of Russia Dmitriy Livanov. One year is given for carrying out all reorganization activities. The reason of the Baltic-Finnish philology and culture department’s reorganization was low number of students studying there at last years – explained in the university.
As for departments of the Finnish language and the Karelian and the Veps languages, which were till nowadays, their situation is not clear. According to the press-service of PetrGU working commission is engage in forming of new structure of amalgamated institute of higher education. At present time the faculty of educational institutions remains in the dark. In chancellor’s waiting room one said to the Informational centre that the situation should be clarifying in the course of a month.
