Merja Hannus: «Consultative Committee of Finno-Ugric peoples has changed»

The Finno-Ugric Peoples' Consultative Committee  has changed and builds a new job in the Finno-Ugric world. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Consultative Committee, the general secretary of the Society of Friendship "Finland-Russia" Merja Hannus, at the opening of the III International Conference "Native language in modern conditions of bilingualism" in Syktyvkar, October 28.
"The Consultative Committee has reorganized the internal work and adopted a new charter - now it has more dynamism and openness," - she highlighted. According to her words, the Consultative Committee  plans to begin preparations for the holding the conference of the World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples, scheduled to be held in Karelia in 2014. Also, it will be awaited the preparing of taking part in the World Conference of Indigenous Peoples, which will be held under the auspices of the United Nations in the same year.
As the deputy chairmanof , the Consultative Committee informed, after the World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples in Siofok in 2012, there was revealed the problem of lack of information about existing now the community organizations of Finno-Ugric peoples. In connection with this, it is planned to gather information through questionnaires, later collected data will be analyzed - their publication is expected in 2014. As noted M. Hannus, this is an important point in terms of preparation for the next World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples, which will be held in Lahti, Finland in 2016.
***  The Finno-Ugric Peoples' Consultative Committee  was created after the First World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples, held in Syktyvkar in 1992. Each Finno -Ugric and Samoyed peoples can be represented by two persons, and they are delegated in the Consultative Committee  national organization of these peoples. Since the establishment, the Advisory Committee is chaired by Valery Markov, now - the first deputy chairman of the State Council of the Komi Republic. The Consultative Committee  is the coordinating body of the international Finno-Ugric movement and the executive body of the World Congress of Finno-Ugric peoples. In the intervals between Congresses, which are held every four years, the Consultative Committee  holds meetings twice a year.
