The play based on the novel of Finish writer Sofi Oksanen about the Estonian “Purification” will be seen in Saint-Petersburg

The spectators will see the staging the play “Purification” based on the novel of Finish writer Sofi Oskanen on 8 of November on the stage of Maly Drama Theatre of Europe in Saint-Petersburg. The Institute of Finland in Saint-Petersburg informs about this.

In the center of the novel is the fate of old Estonian peasant-woman Aliide True, one of the ordinary victims of Soviet period 1940-50’s. The reprisal for the past and the confession come to her in the image of young woman – one of the typical victims of new 90’s , beautiful and sad. In the communication and the collision of these two, seemed nothing which connects, women show the common, familiar traits: the possibility to patient, the striving to independence, the readinees to all for love.

Sofi Oksanen was born in 1977 in Yuvyaskolya (Finland). Her father is Finish, her mother is Estonian. S. Oksanen studied literature in the universities of Yuvyaskolya and Helsinki. She studied on the department of playwriting of Theatre Academy of Finland. She writes poems and prose.

The novel “Purification” honored the prizes of Finland and Literature prize of Northern Consul and was translated into 28 languages, including Russian . The performance will take place in bounds of The Festival of National Playwriting, Prose and Poetry “ We and They = We”.
