It took 20 years to translate the Bible into Udmurt language

In Izhevsk, at National theater of Udmurtia, the presentation of the full text of the initial Bible in the Udmurt language on November 21 will take place. Protodeacon Mikhail Atamanov started the translation of the Bible on April 24, 1991 together with the staff of Institute of translation of the Bible from Helsinki (Finland). Last year the translation was complete, the press secretary of the Izhevsk and Udmurt Diocese priest Vladislav Goncharov reported to Izhlife.ru.

According to doctor B. Aranovich, by the XX century end the quantity of languages into which the Bible was translated, already reached the figure 1848, from them: on 301 – the full Bible, on 633 – the New Testament and on 914 languages, at least, one of Bible Books. How great is the value of translation of the Bible on the Udmurt language, says that fact that for today only about two percent of the population of the globe have no book of the Bible in the language.
