The new project for the revitalization of the language in Finno-Ugric villages starts

The adjusting seminar “The revitalization of minority’s languages with the help of art in the context of Finno-Ugric nations” begins its work at 20 of November in the city of Vyru, in South Estonia. The Youth organization of Kalerians “ Nuori Karjala” informs about this.

The seminar is held with the help of Language program of the Fund Cone in the borders of the direction “Poly-languages and art”. The seminar has the purpose of researching the ways and methods of the influence on the strengthening of identity f the minority speaker’s language with the help of art and culture. At the same time the research of points of close relations of science and art for the representation of language minority committees is held.

The practical purpose of the project is the formulation of the intact of cultural projects and methods of revitalization of minority’s languages for approbation in the village Vedlozero of Pryazhinsky national region of Kaleria Republic and in the perspective in the other Finno-Ugric regions. Within the framework of the project the issue dedicated to the best practices of revitalization of the language with the help of the art will be published.

The language and cultural identity of language minorities is often week and the prestige of them leaves much to be desired. With the help of cultural projects they can destroy the stereotypes and the value judgments about languages and its usage. Such projects also offer the opportunity of learning languages and new environment to use it, as to use the minority languages in such situations when the traditional borders of language’s use are absent.

The organizers of this seminar are The University of Helsinki, Nuori Karjala and the Vyra Institute of languages. The project is supported by the Kaleria Ministry of education. The delegation from Kaleria will take part in this seminar as well.
