Not All Finno-Ugric Regions Will Get Grants under the Program for Consolidation of the Russian Nation

Applications from 20 Russian regions were selected for further consideration by the Committee of the Ministry for Regional Development of Russia, distributing subsidies for the regional programs in the course of the federal program for consolidation of the unity of the Russian nation. The “Natsaktsent” informs about it with reference to the press service of the Ministry.

The list includes the Republic of Buryatia, Ingushetia, Karelia, Komi, Mordovia, Sakha (Yakutia), Chuvash Republic and Republic of Kabardino -Balkaria, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk and Perm Krai, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kirov, Murmansk and Orenburg Oblast, as well as Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra and Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

Letters with request for an explanation and clarification on the documents submitted will be sent to the rest of the subjects of theRussian Federation, which applied, before January 28.

In total the Ministry for Regional Development of Russia has received applications from 61 regions ofRussiafor the participation in the selection. 13 regions have refused to participate in the contest selection.

As explained by Heinrich Martens, the Committee member of Ministry for Regional Development, the Head of the FNKA of the Russian Germans, to the “NatsAktsent” on January 22, the first meeting was devoted to technical issues – compliance of the documents with the conditions of contest. At the next meeting, which will be held on January 30, the Committee will have to discuss the contents of regional programs.

Subsidies will be given to those regions whose programs will meet the necessary conditions. “Each region will be, figuratively speaking, accrued points, and depending on their amount the funds will be distributed” - said G.Martens.

The Committee, which consisted of 11 people, must finish the work by February 16.

Regional programs should consist of two parts: a mandatory part of the prescribed steps to establish a system of monitoring centers, professional development of the state officials, providing grant support for community initiatives in international sphere, the description of measures to prevent amplification of extremism and xenophobia, as well as appropriate information campaigns. In the variable part, which is created with account of the region specification, there must be specified steps to ethno-cultural development of peoples, promoting Cossacks development, indigenous people’s development, and the adaptation and integration of migrants.
