In the capital of Finland on the basis of public university of Kalliola in the spring of 2014 the cycle of classes in studying of the Karelian language will take place. About this it was reported to FINUGOR Info center in the Society of Mathias Kastren.
Enrollment is now open and will continue until April 21. Sami classes will be held from April 29 to May 27 this year. They will be held on Tuesdays from 17:00 to 19:15. Tuition fees 64 euros. Candidate of Philology, the associate professor of Petrozavodsk state university, the activist of the Union of the Karelian people Olga Karlova will conduct the classes. In previous years she taught the Karelian language at University of East Finland in the city of Joensuu, also she will organize summer courses of the Karelian language on a voluntary basis.
Learners will become familiar with the basic grammar of own-Karelian dialect of Karelian language, they will read and discuss texts in the language. The teacher will acquaint listeners with dialects of the Karelian language and culture of the Karelian people. Upon termination of occupations the listener will be able to tell about himself and about modern life in Karelia in Karelian.
