The Congress FUEN urged Putin to address to protection of national minorities in Russia

Delegates of the 57th Congress of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) determined a format of mutual relations of this organization with the authorities of Russia with the help of special document. The correspondent of the media centre FINUGOR informs that the declaration, accepted, was addressed to all functionaries in the Russian Federation, starting with the president of the country Vladimir Putin. The declaration contains program requisitions regarding the protection of interests of small ethnos.

FUEN calls upon the goverment of the Russian Federation to provide for more recognition of the minority language-speaking people in Russia. The Russian Federation should be committed to human rights as a fundamental value of human existence. Ethnic minority rights in general and especially in the field of mather tongue education should be respected.

The federal, regional and municipal authorities should pay strong attention to the issues of ethnic minorities protection, promoting their languages, widening the spheres of their presence and support this process materially and ideally.

The implementation of the Law for the Rehabilitation of Formerly Deported People should be proceed ia an earnest and sustainable way. The Russian Federation should recognize certain peoples, who where yet not on the official list of formerly deported peoples of Russia and peoples, whom where just partially deported ( like the Kumyks from Tarki area and the Laks from the Turtshi area in Northern Caucasus).

FUEN calls on the representatives of the ethnic minorities organizations of the Rassia to join the activities of FUEN as the main pan-European forum on interethnic issues. FUEN is calling for sufficient basic funding of cultural associations of the ethnic minorities of Russia.

FUEN appeals for awareness in the different media of the Russia not to ignore the civic actions and  democratic struggle of the national minorities for reclaiming their chartered human rights.

FUEN calls upon the government of the Russian Federation  to ratify the European Charter for Regional- or Minority Languages and adequate implementation of the aims and provisions enshrined in it.
