The sections of the world Internet encyclopedia Wikipedia in the Finno-Ugric and Samodisky languages are rather small; there are no enthusiasts for the development of it. It was declared by the research assistant of Komi Scientific Centre, a member of presidium of the Inter-regional social movement “Komi voytyr” Alexey Rassyhaev.
Now the world popular encyclopedia has sections in 274 languages of nations of the world and is the fifth Internet resource according to its traffic. In 2001 the sections in Finnish and Estonian languages were opened, in 2003 – in Hungarian. The next step was made by Komi; in 2004 they opened the section in the Komi-Zyrian language. The last section among Finno-Ugric languages in the Veps language appeared in February, 2012. Wiki-sections in the Finno-Ugric languages are filled with texts on Cyrillic; the exclusion is the section in Vepssky that is filled in a Latin.
The general characteristic for them is the small content; at the moment the leader on number of dictionary entries is the GornomariyskayaWiki, having 5063 articles. In decreasing order it is followed by the sections in the Komi- Permyak (3396 articles), Komi-Zyrian (3213), Udmurt (3078) languages, in the Meadow Mari dialect (3027), Erzya (1512), Veps (1312) and Moksha (1117) languages. They considerably yield to the Wikipedia sections in the Finnish language (almost 300000 articles), Hungarian (218020 articles) and Estonian (97157 articles) languages. It is typical for Wiki-sections of Finno-Ugric the presence of the hollow space in the articles, the small "depth" of the complete articles that are published not in a Wiki-format. The weak link is the extremely small number of managers of the Wiki-sections and active workers participating in the development of the sections.
“Nevertheless the Finno-Ugric sections of Wikipedia “work ” for the development of languages, - the expert, taking an active part in the development of the section in the Komi-zyrjansky language emphasized. - besides, Wikipedia is the reliable enough directory of the information for the consumer”.
As he said, in the near future some new sections of Wikipedia in the languages of the Ural language family will appear. So, now in "incubator" there are sections on Karelian (291), South Lappish (155), Livonians (608), Votic (245), Nenets (49), Nganasan (12) languages and also in the Izhora (74), Mansi, Khanty, Kildin Sami languages.
