In Karelia there is the formation of the delegation on VI World congress of the Finno-Ugric people which will be held in Hungary in September, 2012.
The representative of the Karelian youth organization «Nuori Karjala» (Young Karelia) Alexey Tsykarev has informed media centre FINUGOR that on 14th February in Petrozavodsk leaders of the Karelian social movements discussed the principles of the formation of delegation. “At meeting there were leaders of the Union of the Karelian people, «Nuori Karjala», the Karelian congress, League of the Pribaltic-Finnish people and Council of representatives of VI Congress of Karelians of the Karelia Republic. The agreement in order of delegation formation from Karelians on the World congress has been reached. It was decided, that half of places in delegation the representatives of districts would occupy, the second half - the representatives of the central public organizations of Karelians. The approximate quotas on the organization were stipulated. Till the end of February the organizations in districts and in Petrozavodsk should hold meetings and make the offers issued by reports. On March, 6th organization group will gather again for the statement of the general report and the coordination of the general list of delegates ", - he said.
Meanwhile earlier at the seminar in Syktyvkar A.Tsykarev informed that Karelians of Finland addressed to Russian with the request to give them five places in the delegation (the quota for Karelians makes 20 places). “There are 50 thousand Karelians in Finland", - the active worker named. However, its colleague on the organization, the scientific employee of the Karelian centre of science of the Russian Academy of Sciences Natalia Pellinen raised an objection, having specified, that there are only 5 thousand. "There are Finns with the Karelian identity, - it is half-million, and there is the descendants – the carriers of the Karelian language - 25 thousand. There are only five thousand of the original carriers. We have just investigated this question", - the professor of Helsinki University Janne Saarikivi gave the explanations at a seminar.
A.Tsykarev specifies that at the last meeting in Petrozavodsk the question on participation of Karelians of Finland in delegation was not mooted and taken up.
