The ombudsman against the discrimination of Swedish population Agneta Bruberg criticized domestic policy of Sweden vis-à-vis the Sami –native nationality of the country, Radio of Sweden informed.
Sweden declared the Sami as native nationality in 1977, but A. Bruberg thinks that these words have no importance: the equal rights and possibilities of the Sami as official national minority in Sweden are not fixed in Swedish legislation.
Some days ago The UN Committee of obviation of race discrimination stated that the right of the Sami on land was not respected in Sweden, that the elaboration of minerals was started in native lands of the Sami without their agreement.
The ombudsman A. Bruberg calls the Swedish government to ratify the Convention of The UN International Organization of Labour № 169 which defines the minimal level of legal protection of native nationalities.
Remind, that the company Beowulf registered in Great Britain intends to extract the iron ore in Kalak (Gảllok) with the help of its partner – the local company Jokkmokk Iron Mines AB. The group of Sami and not Sami activists several times build barricades from city Jokkmokk towards Kalak in July and August of this year to prevent the passage of special equipment of the company, but Swedish police cleared the passage and detained the protectors of Kalak each time.
The Sami Youth Cancel of Swedish Parliament applied to minister of Industry and energetic of Sweden Annie Lỏỏf with the request to visit Kalak and to listen to the Sami, but a high- level official deviates from visiting and commenting situation.
The protectors of Kalak suppose that Beowulf breaks the law about extraction of minerals, ignores the rights of the Sami for the free, voluntary and perceived agreement which is fixed in legislation of Sweden and in the international contracts.
The Sami Parliament of Norway published the declaration in which it calls the Foreign Secretary Espen Bart Eide to carry on the negotiation with his Swedish college Karl Bilton about opposition in Kalak. And in the end of August the government of Sweden gave the promition to the company Nikel Mountain Resources AB to exploit deposit of nickel in the northern part of the country – n the lands of traditional living of the Sami.
