You are on the webpage of the project “Seven Wonders of the Finno-Ugric World”. The project was realized on the website of the media-centre in the form of contest, which was held from June, 30 till December, 7, 2010 and involved Russia, Estonia, Finland and Hungary. The project had educative goal and was aimed at exciting interest in material and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Uralic linguistic family. With the active support of the project partners a list of objects of cultural, natural and historical heritage of each of 25 Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic nations was compiled on the basis of the media-centre. The title of a “wonder” was given to the winners in four categories: nature, culture, monuments and constructions, and holidays. With assistance of the experts there was gathered unique information about the Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic heritage, which had not been previously known to the wide audience. Each internet-user had an opportunity of entering new objects in the list. In the course of the contest, over 400 object descriptions had been sent, as well as large amount of photos, video- and audio stuff. Out of them severalfinalists had been elected and awarded the title of “Wonder of the Finno-Ugric World”.
The information, collected in the course of the contest, was included in the Finno-Ugric Encyclopedia of Nations. . Each internet-user can contribute to its enlargement.
