Unfortunately, nowadays the cloudberry is undeservedly forgotten in Central Russia and has turned into exotic food, while in the Scandinavian countries and Northern Europe it is still very popular and valuable.
In North Russia it is also widely known and is in big favour. The cloudberry contains organic acids, tanning agents, pectin, mineral substances such as magnesium, chromium, copper. For example, 100 gm. of berries contains 3-4 times as much vitamins as the average orange, and it excels even carrot in carotene content. The cloudberry is a strong bactericide, and the fields of its application are innumerable.
But it’s not an easy task to find this berry. It grows in the mossy, sphagnous marshes of tundra and forest-tundra, in the peatbogs and swampy forests. And moreover, the cloudberry doesn’t cluster; only one berry ripens on the stem.
But the main thing about the cloudberry is that it is not only rare and wholesome, but also very delicious! There is a great variety of dishes and drinks to make of cloudberry or with its adding which are very popular in Europe.
