The village of Kinerma is located in the Vedlozersky rural area of the Pryazhinsky region in the Republic of Karelia. The first record of the village dates from 1563. The village then had four houses, and so it is much older. It is a unique architectural complex that remained almost intact: the Chapel of Smolensky Mother of God dating from the middle of the XVIIIth century; the houses dating from the XVIII-XIXth centuries; the grove which served religious purposes, and the so-called bath-houses po-chyornomy (heated with a chimneyless stove) old Russian style bath-house in which smoke and steam stay inside).
Its close position to the village of Vedlozero and the considerable distance to the waterways prevented the village of Kinerma from being changed by the modern trends. And though the present-day population of the village is only 5 people, in summer Kinerma becomes lively: those born here return to their ancestral houses.
On the initiative of the sisters Kalmykov who were born in the village of Kinerma, a tourist’s centre was founded. Among the objects of touristic infrastructure are: a restored bath-house (pochyornomy), a traditional peasant’s house adapted for ethnic and cultural centre, a reconstructed barn for the souvenir trading, a traditional well, fences and so on.
Since olden times every village has its own day which is celebrated by all the village community. The annual holiday of Kinerma – the 10th of August - is the day of Smolensky Mother of God.
