Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation responded to the leader of "The Karelian congress"

  

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it is considered that the reduction of journal release  "Carelia" is dictated by "exclusively commercial thoughts", the business internet-newspaper of "VestiKareliya" reports.

The chairman of public combining "Karelian congress" Anatoly Grigoriev received the reply of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to his appeal to the head of foreign policy department of the country Sergey Lavrov with a request to interfere with a situation around the only one literary and art journal in the Finnish language in Russia  "Carelia" . As the leader of "The Karelian congress" marked in this appeal, the republican authorities made the decision about sudden reduction of release of one of the oldest national issuings of Karelia that contradicts the provisions of the international agreements between Russia and Finland about mutual support "saving identity of Finns and related to Finns people and nationalities". However the MFA of Russia look at this situation differently.

"According to the available information, the reduction of release of Carelia journal in 2014 is dictated by exclusively commercial reasons, namely – possibilities of financing of its issuing, lowering of subscription and retail circulations, sales volumes in Finland, and also the general loosening of interest of readers in a paper format of periodicals and reorientation to their digital analogs", - it is told in the reply of the MFA of Russia to Grigoriev signed by the director of the Second European department Igor Neverov.

At the same time, in the Russian Foreign Ministry it was emphasized "the importance of issuing in Russia of the printing periodical press in languages of the people of our country, including – Finno-Ugric which are also languages of the people of neighboring countries with which the active international cooperation is carried out". The director of the Second European Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs told to the leader of "The Karelian congress" that foreign policy department addressed for possible comments both in Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications and in the government of Karelia.
