Project “Outstanding persons of the Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples” (“Leaders of the Finno-Ugric World”) started in internet on the site FINUGOR.COM on May, 16. As of June 2 in the section of the competition are more than more than 40 individuals. Leading in the number of nominated candidates Khanty, Mansi, Hungarians, and Erzya Moksha which information has been prepared by experts of the Media Centre FINUGOR.COM .

Contest "Seven Wonders of the Finno-Ugric world", which was held in 2010, showed that the number of people do not is crucial to winning the nomination but success in the international event brings attention to the people of the region and representatives of government, business, public and media», - the editor-in-chief of the Media Center FINUGOR.COM Yuriy Popov said.

Public nomination of prominent Finno-Ugric and Samoyed leaders began on the site FINUGOR.COM on May, 16. Anyone can offer in the competition section of the site Media Center FINUGOR candidate actually lived or living people, and the legendary characters of the last of the Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples. The proposal should include a brief description of the biography of a man (or a hero of mythology and epic), it is desirable to supplement the illustrative material. Information can be presented in Russian and English, which is the language of international communication for the Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples.

The international contest “Leaders of Finno-Ugric World” shall be carried out in 3 stages. In May-August the collection of proposals in eight nominations shall continue: legendary heroes from mythology and epic tales of Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples; political, social, military and religious leaders until XXth century; modern political and social leaders; scientists; art workers; sportsmen; business leaders.

The nomination “The friend of Finno-Ugric peoples” is dedicated to persons not of Finno-Ugric origin but contributed a lot to the Uralic peoples.

At the second stage (September-October) persons of greatest interest from every people in each nomination shall be determined by public voting. At the final stage which started in early November, winners shall be selected by public voting: 7 persons presented in each nomination, which got the maximum number of votes. The official announcement of the action results shall be held in December, 2011. The project is being implemented by wide support of scientific institutions, public associations, mass media, and authorities of countries and regions.
