International contest "Outstanding persons of the Finno-Ugric and Samoyedic peoples” , which takes place on the basis of the site of the media centre of finno-ugric peoples FINUGOR, from November 1, entered into the final stage of voting.

The total number of submitted in shares of candidates amounted to about 600 people. According to conditions of competition in the finals came out of one representative from each of the finno-ugric and samoyed peoples in each category with the largest number of votes.

So, for example, from the mansi and khanty in the nomination "Mythological character" the finals came outZolotaya baba (The Golden Woman), patron saint of the family of the nenetsMyad Pukhutsya, from the udmurts god-the-fatherInmar, from the Finnish Joulupukki , from estonians hero Kalevipoeg.

In the nomination  "Art workers"  were finalists of the Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, Finnish singer Tarja Turunen

collectives “Buranovskiye Babushki” (udmurts) and “Konec leta”(folk of the baltic and Finnish peoples).

In the nomination «The person of business» in the final stage came the chairman of the board of directors of the Finnish company NOKIA  Jorma Jaakko Ollil, a major Hungarian businessman Andre Balázs and general director of the company "KonsultantPlusKomi" Vladimir  Yermolin.

***International contest "Leaders of the finno-ugric world" is held with the purpose of popularization the information about the outstanding representatives of the ethnic groups of the ural language family and individuals, who made a significant contribution to the study, preservation and development of languages and cultures of these peoples. Collection of proposals was held on may 16, on several nominations. The candidatures experienced experts from Russia, Hungary, Finland and Estonia.
In the qualifying rounds of the campaign in September-October by a vote by the Internet and sms defined the most popular candidates from each of the people in each of the nominations. In the final stage of the project which started on 1 November at 00:00 on the voting results in each of the nominations will be defined seven outstanding personalities from the names represented in each of the nominations, scored the maximum number of votes. Them and will be awarded the title of "Leader of the finno-ugric world". Summing up the results of the contest will be held in December 2011.
