Peledysh Aio is the favorite festival of the Mari people, which has been held for about 80 years. Year in year out, when spring field work was over, people celebrated their holiday: They put on their best dresses and national decorations. They had fun, sang and danced whole- heartedly.

In 2002 the holiday was restored and held in the Gornomariisky district, Republic of Mari El. Since then every year the mountain area has hospitably and cordially welcomed guests of the republican singing festival Peledysh Aio, which has become the traditional and favorite festival of choir and signing groups, soloists, musicians, and artists of various genres. The great combined choir has united singing art fans, people of different ages and professions.

A lot of interesting events happen at the festival Peledysh Aio. It starts with the magnificent procession of art groups and festival guests; the festival torch is lighted, the flags are raised, and the hymn is performed. After the traditional celebration in honor of the village workers the joyful action starts: The national hero of the mountain Mari people – the legendary centurion prince of the mountain Mary – Akpars followed by his suite descends from the picturesque slope surrounded by the beautiful birch forest. At that time the glorious March of Akpars is played by the great psaltery group on the Central stage.
