The republican reindeer breeding law will be passed in Komi, as the Chairperson of the State Council Marina Istikhovskaya reported by the results of the meeting of State Council presidium members with the Head of the Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gaizer on September 15.
According to her, its participants devoted most of the meeting to discussing the issues of supporting traditional agricultural activities which determined the lifestyle of the native Komi population. “This, in particular, is reindeer breeding which involves some natives of the republic,” she noted. “Though people have been occupied with reindeer breeding from time immemorial, yet there is still no regional law regulating this industry. At present, at the initiative of the faction of the United Russia party, the State Council is drafting the corresponding bill. After the bill is passed and the law comes into force, the legal framework will appear, which will allow solving the essential issues of supporting this branch and, accordingly, those of population living upcountry.”
