Three Udora district Komi schools decided to switch over to Komi-language instruction at the primary level, reported Finnougr news portal.

Director of the region's board of education Tatjana Maneva said that teaching is also currently performed in Komi language in village primary schools, as it is easier for teachers to make things clear to the children in this way.

The decision to transfer to Komi-language instruction was made already in April, however the process will take at least a year's time because textbooks and curriculum are lacking.

There are 17 schools in the Udora district and Komi language is taught as a native tongue in 14 of them. The district has also earlier stood out for its national spirit: the local district council last year wished to enforce a Komi-language proficiency requirement for all officials.
