"The life of Pitirim Aleksandrovich is the best example of what can be achieved by an ordinary person born in the province, when he set a goal and hangs on by the eye brows. This is an example for young people that our land is capable of and will always bring up people whom Russia and the world be proud of," said Vyacheslav Gaizer, the Head of the Republic of Komi at the ceremony of opening the monument to Pitirim Sorokin, the native of the Republic of Komi and the prominent sociologist. The sculpture has been installed by the main building of Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University, official portal Republic of Komi reports.
The head of the region thanked Sergei Sorokin, the son of the sociologist for his contribution to preserving of his father’s heritage, as well as sculptor Andrei Kovalchuk for the creation of the monument. Vyacheslav Gaizer stressed that the creation of the monument was supported by academics, intellectuals, Komi Voityr social movement, the business community and residents of the republic. "Such a great public support indicates that Pitirim Sorokin is a kind of symbol of Komi region," said Vyacheslav Gaizer.
